Many businesses are still reluctant to invest in office space since the pandemic. The increase in people working at home, coupled with high commercial rents, have left UK cities with a significant increase in empty office space. 

In London there has been a 20% reduction in office space needed by businesses, in comparison with pre-pandemic times. This is the equivalent of almost 17 Houses of Parliament!

With London having the highest commercial rents in Europe, businesses are not flooding back. Campaigners are now calling for landlords to let start-ups, community groups or small and medium enterprises (SMEs) use the empty units on cheaper, temporary contracts.
