The Home Office has just announced that the Tier 1 Investor route will close with immediate effect, after their amendments to the scheme failed to address security concerns.

This will come as a disappointment to eligible migrants who have accrued their wealth through legitimate means.

Applications submitted by 4pm on 17 February will be considered in line with the Investor rules prior to their withdrawal.

At the same time, the Home Office has announced that they will introduce new changes to the Innovator route; so those coming to the UK to open innovative, viable and scalable businesses are able to do so with more flexibility than the current rules allow.

UK Visas and Immigration have also announced that new visa types will become available later this year. The new Global Business Mobility route, for overseas businesses seeking to establish a presence or transfer staff to the UK, will be launched this Spring under the existing sponsorship system. Improvements are expected for businesses recruiting foreign staff.

The new sponsorship system will make it easier for overseas businesses to assign and manage workers coming to the UK under the Global Business Mobility route. This will be a welcome change for those companies who wish to open a branch of their business in the UK or increase their foreign workforce.
